At the recent High TECC conference I attended Steve Anderson had a very informative session on Social Media and its impact on doing business with younger generations. He discussed everything from Twitter to MySpace to Wikis to LinkedIn to Facebook and everything in between. He also introduced a very knowledgeable person by the name of Duke Williams. He has a rather interesting blog that can be found at http://dukethinkingonline.blogspot.com.

I will add more about the High TECC conference as I have time.

    Launch Magazine

    Launch Magazine

Kent Thomas of CFO Solutions referred me to Launch, a free online mag for entrepreneurs. I thought this issue was very useful, including the following topics of interest:

    • The Myths of Entrepreneurship
    • Entrepreneur Risks vs Rewards
    • Funding Options for Startups
    • Making Sense of Venture Term Sheets
    • Opportunities vs Ideas

In talking with one of my clients the other day, I casually asked them about their exit strategy, inferring that they’d be acquired. The looked surprised and asked, “Why would you say that?” Turns out my assumption was correct – I might have them as clients for a couple of years before a larger company absorbs them (and their insurance).

It’s the nature of the business – and the space in which our Venture Practice Group plays. Perhaps a future, more accessible IPO market will change things, but I’m not holding my breath. For my part, I congratulate my former clients and future former clients, since many of them cannot resist the entrepreneurial bug and will call me back for the next round…
